About Thai Massage

Traditional Thai Massage

(or Nuad Bo-Rarn Northern Style)

Traditional massage of Thailand is said to have originated over 2500 years ago with the renowned physician Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha in India, who attended Sakyamuni, the historical Buddha, and the monks and nuns of the sangha, or community of his followers.

The theoretical basis of Thai massage is the existence of the "energy body," which includes 72,000 "sen" or energy lines. In Thai massage we address the ten main sen using pressure on specific points along these lines, compressions and stretches, releasing blockages to restore the free flow of life energy. Because the stretches a practitioner "does" for the client are similar to those in the ancient Indian art of self-stretching, Thai Massage is sometimes called "yoga for lazy people."
